World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats. Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount. Item Level The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded. It is also used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet. Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item. The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat. There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's real item level. However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl as the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl. Item Stats The stats of an item are a major element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level. Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs. Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. item upgrades are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by putting a name on them. Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling. In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a raid boss. Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it is not successful. When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.. The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent. The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
